The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 Hath created man from a clot! 2 Recite thou: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 Who taught by the pen - 4 Hath taught man that which he knew not. 5 No indeed; surely Man waxes insolent, 6 for he thinks himself self-sufficient. 7 Verily, to thy Lord is the return (of all). 8 Have you seen the one who prohibits 9 A servant when he prays? 10 What will happen if the praying person is rightly guided 11 or enjoins true piety? 12 Do you see how he has denied the truth and turned away from it? 13 Does he, then, not know that God sees [all]? 14 By no means! If he desist not We shall seize and deal him by the forelock 15 his lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades): 17 We also shall call the infernal guards. 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
