The 'Ad (people) rejected the messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)? 124 I have been sent as a trusted messenger to you. 125 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 126 I ask no recompense of you; my reward is only with the Lord of the Universe. 127 “What! You build a structure on every height, to laugh at the passers-by?” 128 "And do ye get for yourselves fine buildings in the hope of living therein (for ever)? 129 and when you strike you strike like tyrants? 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 “Fear Him Who has aided you with the things you know.” 132 amply provided you with flocks, and children, 133 "And Gardens and Springs. 134 I fear the punishment of a terrible day for you. 135 They said: "It is the same to us whether thou admonish us or be not among (our) admonishers! 136 “This is nothing but the tradition of former people.” 137 and we are not going to be chastised [for adhering to it]!" 138 In this there is evidence (of the Truth), yet most of them do not have any faith. 139 And lo! thy Lord, He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
