In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 1 Created man from a clinging substance. 2 Proclaim! And thy Lord is Most Bountiful,- 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 Taught man what he did not know. 5 By no means: Verily man exorbitateth. 6 In that he looketh upon himself as self-sufficient. 7 Surely to your Lord is your return. 8 Have you seen the one who prohibits 9 a worshiper when he prays. 10 Bethinkest thou, if he is himself guided, 11 or orders piety? 12 Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away? 13 Does he not know that Allah sees everything? 14 Nay! if he desist not, We would certainly smite his forehead, 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 So let him call his associates, 17 and We too will call the stern and angry keepers of hell. 18 Nay! (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him))! Do not obey him (Abu Jahl). Fall prostrate and draw near to Allah! ۩ 19
