The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Recite: In the Name of thy Lord who created, 1 Created man from a clinging substance. 2 Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous - 3 The One Who taught to write with the pen. 4 He taught the human being what he did not know. 5 And yet, but yet man is rebellious, 6 As he bethinkest himself selfsufficient. 7 Surely unto thy Lord is the Returning. 8 Have you seen him who restrains 9 A votary when he (turns) to pray? 10 What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, 11 Or enjoined guarding (against evil)? 12 Hast thou considered whether he may [not] be giving the lie to the truth and turning his back [upon it]? 13 Does he not know that Allah sees? 14 No indeed; surely, if he gives not over, We shall seize him by the forelock, 15 A forelock, lying, sinning. 16 So, let him call upon his way! 17 We will call the guards of hell. 18 Nay, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)! ۩ 19
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
