Some of the Pharaoh's nobles considered him to be no more than a skillful magician 109 who seeks to drive you from your land!" Pharaoh said, "What then do you advise?" 110 Then they advised Pharaoh: 'Put off Moses and his brother for a while, and send forth heralds to your cities 111 “To bring all the expert magicians to you.” 112 The magicians came to the Pharaoh and said: "Is there reward for us if we succeed?" 113 'Yes' he answered, 'and you will be among those near' 114 Then they said: 'O Moses, will you [first] throw your rod, or shall we throw?' 115 He [Musa (Moses)] said: "Throw you (first)." So when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people, and struck terror into them, and they displayed a great magic. 116 And We inspired Moses (saying): Throw thy staff! And lo! it swallowed up their lying show. 117 ۞ Thus the truth was upheld, and the falsehood that they practised was exposed. 118 So they were vanquished there, and they turned about, humbled. 119 And the magicians fell down in prostration [to Allah]. 120 They said: we believe in the Lord of the worlds. 121 The Lord of Moses and Aaron. 122 The Pharaoh said to the magicians, "You declared your belief in him (Moses) without my permission. This is a plot to throw my people out of their city. But you will soon know. 123 Surely I will cut off your hands and feet on the opposite sides and thereafter I will crucify you all. 124 They said: verily unto our Lord we are turning. 125 And what is it for which thou takest vengeance on us save that we have believed in the signs of our Lord when they came unto us? Our Lord! pour out upon us perseverance and cause us to die as Muslims. 126
