۞ Surely We had bestowed wisdom upon Abraham even earlier, and We knew him well. 51 Recall what time he said unto his father and his people: what are these images to which ye are cleaving? 52 They replied: "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said: "Certainly you and your fathers have all been in manifest error." 54 They said, "Have you brought us the truth or are you jesting?" 55 Abraham replied, "Your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, who created them, and I bear witness to that. 56 By the Lord, I will devise a plan against your deities after you have gone away and turned your backs!" 57 And then he broke those [idols] to pieces, [all] save the biggest of them, so that they might [be able to] turn to it. 58 [When they saw what had happened,] they said: "Who has done this to our gods? Verily, one of the worst wrongdoers is he!" 59 Some of them said: "We heard a youth called Abraham speak (ill) of them." 60 "Bring him before the people," they said, "that they may bear witness." 61 They said, 'So, art thou the man who did this unto our gods, Abraham?' 62 'No' he replied. 'It was their great one amongst them that did it. Ask them, if they are able to speak' 63 They then turned to themselves, and said: verily ye it is who are the wrong-doers. 64 Again they were inverted upon their heads; saying, “You know well that these do not speak.” 65 He said, 'What, and do you serve, apart from God, that which profits you nothing; neither hurts you? 66 "Fie upon you, and upon the things that ye worship besides Allah! Have ye no sense?".. 67 They said, 'Burn him, and help your gods, if you would do aught.' 68 We said: O fire! be a comfort and peace to Ibrahim; 69 And they desired a war on him, but We made them the greatest losers. 70 We took Abraham and Lot safely to the land in which We had sent blessings to the worlds. 71 And We gave him Isaac and Jacob in superfluity, and every one made We righteous 72 We made them leaders who guided people by Our command. We revealed to them the doing of good, observance of prayer and the giving of alms and Us alone did they worship. 73 And Lot -- to him We gave judgment and knowledge; and we delivered him from the city that had been doing deeds of corruption; they were an evil people, truly ungodly; 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy; indeed he is among those who deserve Our proximity. 75
