He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 and in awe [of God] 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 In honored books, 13 exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And thick gardens, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
