۞ And We verily gave Abraham of old his proper course, and We were Aware of him, 51 When he said unto his father and his folk: What are these images unto which ye pay devotion? 52 They answered: "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said, "Both you and your fathers have certainly been in error." 54 They said, "Have you brought us the Truth, or are you one of those who jest?" 55 He said: "Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth which He created and to that I bear witness before you. 56 By Allah, I shall certainly carry out my plan against your gods after you are gone." 57 He broke them all into pieces, except for the biggest one of them, so that they might return to it [for enquiry]. 58 They said: Who has done this to our gods? Most surely he is one of the unjust. 59 They said, "We heard a young man mention them who is called Abraham." 60 They said: bring him then before the eyes of the people, haply they may bear witness. 61 They said: Have you done this to our gods, O Ibrahim? 62 He said: But this, their chief hath done it. So question them, if they can speak. 63 So they returned one to another, and they said, 'Surely it is you who are the evildoers.' 64 Then crestfallen (they confessed): "Truly, as you know, they cannot speak." 65 Abraham said: "Do you, then, worship beside Allah a thing that can neither benefit you nor hurt you? 66 Fie upon you and upon all that you worship instead of God! Will you not, then, use your reason?" 67 They said: 'Burn him and help your gods, if you are going to do anything' 68 We said: O fire! be thou cool and peace unto Ibrahim. 69 They wished to entrap him, but We made them greater losers. 70 And We delivered him and Lot to the land which We had blessed for the worlds. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac and Jacob as an additional gift, making each of them righteous. 72 And We made them into leaders to guide people in accordance with Our command, and We inspired them to good works, and to establish Prayers and to give Zakah. They worshipped Us alone. 73 To Lot, We gave judgment and knowledge and saved him from the village that had been committing corrupt deeds; for they were an evil nation and were debauched. 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy. Indeed, he was of the righteous. 75
