Thamud denied the messengers 141 When their brother Salih said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)? 142 I am for you an honest Messenger. 143 be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me! 144 “And I do not ask from you any fee for it; my reward is only upon the Lord Of The Creation.” 145 Do you believe that you will be left here to live securely in the present state 146 “In gardens and water springs?” 147 sown fields, and palms with slender spathes? 148 Will you still hew your dwellings in the mountains? 149 So fear you God, and obey you me; 150 And obey not the command of the extravagant. 151 “Those who spread turmoil in the earth, and do no reform.” 152 They said: "You are only of those bewitched! 153 You are naught but a mortal like ourselves; so bring a sign if you are one of the truthful. 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel; it has a right to drink (water), and you have a right to drink (water) (each) on a day, known. 155 and do her no harm, lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 156 But they killed her, and then they became regretful. 157 for the suffering [predicted by Salih,] befell them [then and there]. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 158 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 159

(1) وقف لازم، حيث يستخدم الرسم الإنجليزي نقطة وقف. (2) وقف جائز مع الوقف أولى، حيث يستخدم الرسم الإنجليزي فاصلة قد تظهر باحتمال الثلثين. (3) وقف جائز مع تساوي أولوية الوقف والوصل، حيث يستخدم الرسم الإنجليزي فاصلة قد تظهر باحتمال النصف للنصف. (4) وقف جائز مع الوصل أولى، حيث يستخدم الرسم الإنجليزي فاصلة قد تظهر باحتمال الثلث. When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
