The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Arise, and warn. 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 purify your garments; 4 And stay away from idols. 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 Then looked he, 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
