The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 About which they have been differing? 3 No! They are going to know. 4 Nay! Nay! they shall soon know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 And the high hills bulwarks? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 made sleep for you to rest, 9 and the night as a cover, 10 And made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We built above you seven strong ones, 12 and have placed [therein the sun,] a lamp full of blazing splendour. 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water, 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetables, 15 and gardens dense with follage. 16 Indeed the Day of Decision is a time fixed. 17 The day when the Trumpet will be blown – you will therefore come forth in multitudes. 18 And the heaven shall be opened, and it will become as gates, 19 And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage. 20 [On that Day,] verily, hell will lie in wait [for those who deny the truth] 21 a goal for all who are wont to transgress the bounds of what is right! 22 Living therein for ages. 23 tasting therein neither coolness nor any drink 24 Except boiling water and benumbing cold: 25 An exact recompense (according to their evil crimes). 26 Surely they feared not the account, 27 They called Our revelations false with strong denial. 28 And We have kept recorded everything in a Book, accounted for. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
