The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ Alif, Lam, Ra. These are the verses of the Book and a clear Qur'an. 1 Perchance the unbelievers will wish that they had surrendered: 2 Leave them to eat and enjoy, and let them be preoccupied with (false) hope. They will come to know! 3 Whenever We destroyed a town, a definite term had previously been decreed for it. 4 No nation can outstrip its term nor can they lag behind. 5 And they say: O thou unto whom the Reminder is revealed, lo! thou art indeed a madman! 6 "Why bringest thou not angels to us if it be that thou hast the Truth?" 7 We send not down the angels, save with truth; 8 We have, without doubt, sent down the Message; and We will assuredly guard it (from corruption). 9 Indeed, We sent Messengers before thee, among the factions of the ancients, 10 But never once an apostle came to them at whom they did not scoff. 11 This is how We cause the hearts of the guilty ones to behave. 12 They believe not therein, though the example of the men of old hath gone before. 13 And [even] if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they continued therein to ascend, 14 still they would say: 'Our eyes were dazzled; truly, we must have been a bewitched people' 15
