The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Star when it goes down,- 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he misguided, 2 Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. 3 Indeed it is not except a Revelation which is revealed, 4 and taught to him 5 The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, 6 standing poised at the highest point on the horizon, 7 then drew near and suspended hung, 8 And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer; 9 so (Allah) revealed to His worshiper (Gabriel) that which he revealed (to Prophet Muhammad). 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 What! do you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 He saw Him indeed another time 13 by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, 14 Nigh unto which is the Garden of Abode. 15 When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it]. 16 His eye did not waver, nor did it stray, 17 Indeed, he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you considered Lat and 'Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third, the last? 20 What! for you the males and for Him the females! 21 that, lo and behold, is an unfair division! 22 These are nothing but names that you and your forefathers have invented, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They are merely following their conjectures and their carnal desires although guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
