The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the Event (the resurrection) comes 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 abasing, exalting, 3 When the earth is shaken 4 And the mountains will be powdered to dust. 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 They shall be near-stationed (to their Lord), 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 a large group of the early believers, 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 (will be) among thornless Lote trees. 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 and spreading shade 30 and flowing water, 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And exalted thrones. 34 Verily We! We have created those maidens by a creation. 35 So made them as maidens. 36 Lovers, friends, 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
