Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Have you heard about the Overwhelming Event? 1 Some faces that Day shall be downcast with fear, 2 Labouring, striving hard. 3 they shall enter a burning Fire 4 Given water from the boiling spring to drink. 5 they shall have no food but thorns, 6 Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 On that very Day some faces shall be radiant with joy, 8 well-pleased with [the fruit of] their striving, 9 In an elevated garden, 10 Where they shall neither hear harmful speech nor falsehood, 11 A gushing fountain shall be there 12 And within it are couches placed on high, 13 and goblets laid out, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 and rich carpets levelled out. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And the mountains, how they were fixed; 19 how the earth was outstretched? 20 Then remind them! Thou art only a reminder; 21 Thou art not one to manage (men's) affairs. 22 But if any turn away and reject Allah,- 23 Allah will punish him with a mighty Punishment, 24 To Us is surely their returning; 25 Then surely upon Us is the taking of their account. 26
