The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night as it envelops; 1 And the day resplendent 2 And Him Who hath created male and female, 3 Certainly, your efforts and deeds are diverse (different in aims and purposes); 4 Then as for him who giveths and feareth Him. 5 for those who spend for the cause of God, 6 We will ease him toward ease. 7 But for those who are niggardly, horde their wealth, 8 And who belieth the Good, 9 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Misery; 10 And what will his wealth benefit him when he goes down (in destruction). 11 Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 I therefore warn you of the fire that is ablaze. 14 None shall enter it but the most unhappy, 15 Who gives the lie (to the truth) and turns (his) back. 16 For, distant from it shall remain he who is truly conscious of God: 17 even he who gives his wealth. to purify himself 18 and confers no favour on any man for recompense, 19 but only to seek the good pleasure of his Lord Most High. 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
