The tribe of Thamud also rejected the messengers. 141 When their fellowman Saleh said to them, “Do you not fear?” 142 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 143 "So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 145 (Do you think) you will be left secure here 146 among gardens and fountains, 147 and cornfields and date-palms laden with juicy fruits? 148 And hew ye out houses in the mountains skilfully! 149 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 150 “And do not follow those who exceed the limits.” 151 “Those who spread turmoil in the earth, and do no reform.” 152 They said: "Surely you are deluded. 153 Thou art but a human being like unto us. So bring thou a sign if thou art of the truth-tellers. 154 Salih said: "This is a she-camel. There is a day set for her to drink and there is a day set for you to drink. 155 And touch her not with ill, lest there take hold of you the torment of a Mighty Day. 156 Yet they hamstrung her, and then they became regretful: 157 For they were seized by the torment. Verily there was a sign in this, but most of them did not believe. 158 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 159
