Noah (Nooh)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
BEHOLD. We sent Noah unto his people. [Saying:] "Warn thy people ere grievous suffering befall them! 1 Noah said: “My people, I have certainly been sent as a clear warner to you, 2 [Saying], 'Worship Allah, fear Him and obey me. 3 "So He may forgive you your sins and give you respite for a stated Term: for when the Term given by Allah is accomplished, it cannot be put forward: if ye only knew." 4 He said: "O Lord, I called my people night and day, 5 “So for them, my calling them increased their fleeing away.” 6 Each time I called them so that You might forgive them, they thrust their fingers in their ears and wrapped themselves in their garments, and persisted becoming very proud. 7 And lo! I have called unto them aloud, 8 and, behold I preached to them in public; and I spoke to them secretly, in private; 9 "I said (to them): 'Ask forgiveness from your Lord; Verily, He is Oft-Forgiving; 10 He will send down upon you the cloud, pouring down abundance of rain: 11 and give to you wealth and sons, and provide you with gardens and rivers. 12 What aileth you that ye hope not toward Allah for dignity 13 And surely He hath created you by stages. 14 See ye not how Allah hath created seven heavens in harmony, 15 And made the moon therein a [reflected] light and made the sun a burning lamp? 16 And Allah has brought you forth from the (dust of) earth. [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 29, Page 97]. 17 and He will later cause you to return to it and will then again bring you out of it. 18 And Allah hath made the earth a wide expanse for you 19 That you may follow therein roads of passage.'
