In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you the (sleeping) enwrapped one! 1 Stay up the night long save a little 2 A half of it or a little less 3 or add to it [at will]; and [during that time] recite the Qur'an calmly and distinctly, with thy mind attuned to its meaning. 4 Behold, We shall cast upon thee a weighty word; 5 Prayer at night leaves the strongest impression on one's soul and the words spoken are more consistent. 6 Verily there is for thee by day occupation prolonged. 7 Remember the name of your Lord, and devote yourself to Him wholeheartedly. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West. There is no god but He. So take Him alone as your protector. 9 Bear patiently with what they say, and ignore them politely. 10 And let Me alone with the beliers, owners of ease: and respite thou them a little. 11 We have fetters (for them) and a blazing fire, 12 And food that chokes, and a painful punishment. 13 On a day when the earth and the mountains will tremble, and the mountains turn into dunes of flowing sand. 14 Surely We have sent unto you a Messenger as a witness over you, even as We sent to Pharaoh a Messenger, 15 but Pharaoh rebelled against the Messenger, so We seized him remorselessly. 16 How then, if you disbelieve, will you preserve yourselves on the day which will even turn the children hoary? 17 [the Day] on which the skies shall be rent asunder, [and] His promise [of resurrection] fulfilled? 18 This is a reminder. Let anyone who wants, seek guidance from his Lord. 19
