He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 you attend to him, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 and fearfully, 9 you ignore him. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
