The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Recite: In the Name of thy Lord who created, 1 Has created man from a clot (a piece of thick coagulated blood). 2 Read: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 The One Who taught to write with the pen. 4 The One Who taught man all what he did not know. 5 Despite this, the human being still tends to rebel 6 As he bethinkest himself selfsufficient. 7 Verily unto thy Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen him who restrains 9 A bondman when he offers the prayer? 10 What will happen if the praying person is rightly guided 11 and enjoins piety? 12 Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away? 13 Does he not know that God sees? 14 Let him know that if he does not desist, We shall certainly drag him by his forelocks, 15 A lying, sinful forehead. 16 Then, let him call upon his council (of helpers), 17 We will now call the guards! 18 No, indeed; do not obey him! Prostrate and come nearer (to Allah). ۩ 19
True are the words of God the Almighty.
