۞ (God will command the angels), "Gather together the unjust, their spouses, and what they had worshipped 22 Other than Allah, and guide them to the path of Hellfire 23 And halt them so that they may be questioned. 24 [They will be asked], "What is [wrong] with you? Why do you not help each other?" 25 Nay, but that day they shall submit (to Judgment); 26 and approach each other with questions, 27 They say: Lo! ye used to come unto us, imposing, (swearing that ye spoke the truth). 28 But they reply: 'Rather, you were not believers. 29 And we had no authority over you, but you were an inordinate people; 30 But now our Lord's word has come true against us: truly, we are bound to taste [the punishment]. 31 We seduced you astray; verily we were ourselves the seduced ones. 32 So all of them on that day are sharers in the chastisement. 33 Verily, thus shall We deal with all who were lost in sin: 34 Truly, when it was said to them: La ilaha ill-Allah "(none has the right to be worshipped but Allah)," they puffed themselves up with pride (i.e. denied it). 35 And said: "Should we abandon our gods for the sake of an insane poet?" 36 In fact he has brought the Truth, and testified for the Noble Messengers! 37 Verily ye are going to taste a torment afflictive. 38 You will only be recompensed according to your deeds.” 39 Except the chosen creatures of God, 40 For them is a Sustenance determined, 41 as the fruits [of their life on earth]; and honoured shall they be 42 In Gardens of Delight. 43 Facing one another on thrones, 44 A bowl shall be made to go round them from water running out of springs, 45 White, delicious to the drinkers, 46 Free from headiness; nor will they suffer intoxication therefrom. 47 And with them are those who do not set gaze upon men except their husbands, the maidens with gorgeous eyes. 48 as if they were hidden pearls. 49 Then shall some of them advance to others, questioning each other. 50 one of them will say, "I had a friend, 51 Who used to say: "Are you among those who believe (in resurrection after death). 52 When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, shall we be recompensed?" 53 Do you want to see him?' " 54 Then looketh he and seeth him in the depth of hell. 55 And he will say: by Allah, thou hadst wellnigh causedest me to perish. 56 Had it not been for the grace of my Lord I too would have been there (in Hell). 57 But then, [O my friends in paradise,] is it [really] so that we are not to die 58 and that we would not be punished?" 59 Indeed, this is the great attainment. 60 For the like of this, then, let them labour, those who labour [in God's way]! 61 Is such [a paradise] the better welcome - or the [hellish] tree of deadly fruit? 62 Which We have reserved as punishment for evil-doers? 63 Verily it is a tree that springeth forth in the bottom of Flaming Fire. 64 and its fruits are like the heads of devils. 65 Truly they will eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith. 66 then in addition to it they shall have a draught of boiling water to drink; 67 Then their return will be to the same blazing Hell. 68 They found their fathers had gone astray; 69 Yet they hasten to follow in their footsteps. 70 yet before them most of the ancients went astray, 71 And indeed We sent among them warners (Messengers); 72 See how terrible was the end of those who were warned. 73 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 74
