The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the Mount 1 and a Book inscribed 2 In parchment unrolled. 3 by the Visited House, 4 By the Canopy Raised High; 5 And [by] the sea filled [with fire], 6 Lo! the doom of thy Lord will surely come to pass; 7 there is none to avert it. 8 On the Day whereon the heaven will shake with an awful shaking. 9 and the mountains will move with [an awesome] movement. 10 Woe, then, on that Day to all who give the lie to the truth 11 Who play in talk of grave matters; 12 the day when they shall be pitched into the fire of Gehenna: 13 (And it is said unto them): This is the Fire which ye were wont to deny. 14 Is it magic then or do you not see? 15 Endure it [now]! But [whether you] bear yourselves with patience or without patience, it will be the same to you: you are but being requited for what you were wont to do." 16 Indeed the pious are in Gardens and peace. 17 Happy because of what their Lord hath given them, and (because) their Lord hath warded off from them the torment of hell-fire. 18 "Eat and drink with good cheer as a reward for your good deeds," 19 Reclining upon couches ranged in rows; and We shall espouse them to wide-eyed houris. 20 And as for those who have attained to faith and whose offspring will have followed them in faith, We shall unite them with their offspring; and We shall not let aught of their deeds go to waste: [but] every human being will be held in pledge for whatever he has earned. 21 And We aided them with fruit and meat, whatever they desire. 22 They will pass cups of un-intoxicating and unsinful wine to one another. 23 ۞ and there go round them youths, their own, as if they were hidden pearls. 24 And some of them draw near to others, questioning. 25 saying, "We were afraid while in the world. 26 "But Allah has been good to us, and has delivered us from the Penalty of the Scorching Wind. 27 Verily, we did invoke Him [alone] ere this: [and now He has shown us] that He alone is truly benign, a true dispenser of grace!" 28
