He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 you attend to him, 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 From him you are distracted. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Let man look at his food: 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 And We made corn grow, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And dense gardens, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 his wife and his sons: 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 laughing and joyous 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 with darkness overspread: 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
