Samood gave the lie to the apostles 141 Recall when their brother Salih said to them: "Have you no fear?" 142 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 143 so fear God and obey me. 144 And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 145 Shall ye be left secure in that which is here before us. 146 amidst the gardens, springs, 147 sown fields, and palms with slender spathes? 148 "And ye carve houses out of (rocky) mountains with great skill. 149 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me; 150 “And do not follow those who exceed the limits.” 151 who do corruption in the earth, and set not things aright.' 152 They said, “You are under a magic spell.” 153 You are naught but a mortal like ourselves; so bring a sign if you are one of the truthful. 154 Salih said: "This is a she-camel. There is a day set for her to drink and there is a day set for you to drink. 155 And do not touch her with evil, lest the punishment of a grievous day should overtake you. 156 But they hamstrung her and then regretted it. 157 and the chastisement seized them. Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 158 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
