The nobles of Pharaoh said: "He surely is a clever magician. 109 "His plan is to get you out of your land: then what is it ye counsel?" 110 They said: "Keep him and his brother in suspense (for a while); and send to the cities men to collect- 111 to bring thee every cunning sorcerer.' 112 And so the sorcerers came to Fir'aun (Pharaoh). They said: "Indeed there will be a (good) reward for us if we are the victors." 113 He said: Yes, and you shall certainly be of those who are near (to me). 114 They said: 'Moses, will you throw first or shall we be the throwers' 115 He said, "Throw," and when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people and struck terror into them, and they presented a great [feat of] magic. 116 And We inspired to Moses, "Throw your staff," and at once it devoured what they were falsifying. 117 ۞ Thus the truth prevailed and what they had produced came to nothing: 118 The magicians who were defeated on the spot and were proved to be worthless, 119 And the wizards fell down prostrate, 120 Crying: We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron. 122 But Pharaoh said: "You have come to accept belief in Him without my permission! This surely is a plot you have hatched to expel the people from the land. You will soon come to know. 123 "Surely, I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, then I will crucify you all." 124 They said: "Verily, we are returning to our Lord. 125 And what is it for which thou takest vengeance on us save that we have believed in the signs of our Lord when they came unto us? Our Lord! pour out upon us perseverance and cause us to die as Muslims. 126
