Surely We brought man into being out of dry ringing clay which was wrought from black mud, 26 and the jinn before (the human being) of smokeless fire. 27 When your Lord said to the angels, "I will create the human being out of pure mud-moulded clay. 28 And when I have proportioned him and breathed into him of My [created] soul, then fall down to him in prostration." 29 Then the angels bowed themselves all together, 30 But Iblis (did it not); he refused to be with those who made obeisance. 31 He said: 'iblis, what is the matter with you, that you do you not prostrate yourself' 32 He replied, "I am not one to prostrate myself to a man whom You have created out of a clay of moulded mud." 33 The Lord said: "Then get out of here; you are rejected, 34 "And verily, the curse shall be upon you till the Day of Recompense (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)." 35 Said he, 'My Lord, respite me till the day they shall be raised.' 36 He answered: 'You are among those reprieved 37 Until the Day of the time well-known." 38 [Iblis (Satan)] said: "O my Lord! Because you misled me, I shall indeed adorn the path of error for them (mankind) on the earth, and I shall mislead them all. 39 "Except Your chosen, (guided) slaves among them." 40 Said He: "This is, with Me, a straight way: 41 verily, thou shalt have no power over My creatures - unless it be such as are [already] lost in grievous error and follow thee [of their own will]: 42 Hell is the promised place for them all. 43 Which has several gates, and each gate is marked for every section of them." 44
