The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ What do they quarrel about? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 on which they [so utterly] disagree. 3 (What they think is certainly despicable!). They will soon come to know (the reality). 4 Nay, again, but they will come to know! 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 and raised the mountains like supporting poles? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And made sleep for you to rest, 9 and We appointed night for a garment, 10 And the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have builded over you seven strong heavens. 12 And have appointed a dazzling lamp, 13 And We send down from the clouds water pouring forth abundantly, 14 so that We may bring forth thereby grain and a variety of plants, 15 and gardens luxuriant. 16 Indeed, the Day of Judgement is an appointed time - 17 The Day the Horn is blown and you will come forth in multitudes 18 and when the sky shall be opened up and will become all doors; 19 And the mountains shall be moved away from their places and they will be as if they were a mirage. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 where they shall remain for ages, 23 They will not taste therein [any] coolness or drink 24 Except scalding water and [foul] purulence - 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 They were those who did not expect a reckoning, 27 They called Our revelations false with strong denial. 28 We have kept account of everything in a book. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
