The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ Nay, I swear by this city - 1 And thou art a freeman of this City;- 2 and I swear by the parent and his offspring: 3 Verily We have created man into toil and struggle. 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 (He boasts and shows off) saying, "I have spent a great deal of money (for the cause of God)". 6 What, does he think none has seen him? 7 Have We not appointed to him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and a pair of lips? 9 and guided him on the two paths (of good and evil)? 10 Yet he has not scaled the height. 11 Would that you knew what Aqaba is! 12 It is the freeing of a slave 13 or giving food upon a day of hunger 14 To an orphan near of kin. 15 Or to the indigent (down) in the dust. 16 and being, withal, of those who have attained to faith, and who enjoin upon one another patience in adversity, and enjoin upon one another compassion. 17 They are the people of the right hand (and will succeed). 18 But those who disbelieved in Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), they are those on the Left Hand (the dwellers of Hell). 19 with the Fire closed above them. 20
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
