The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the sun and its heat and brightness, 1 by the moon when it follows the sun, 2 The day when it reveals his radiance, 3 And by the night as it conceals it (the sun); 4 And the heaven and Him Who made it, 5 and by the earth and That which extended it! 6 And by oath of the soul and by oath of Him Who made it proper. 7 And inspired it [with discernment of] its wickedness and its righteousness, 8 Prosperous is he who purifies it, 9 And he is indeed a failure who stunteth it. 10 Thamood belied in their pride 11 when the most corrupt of them incited them (to commit evil). 12 And the messenger of Allah said: It is the she-camel of Allah, so let her drink! 13 But they gave him the lie, and hamstrung the she-camel. So their Lord destroyed them for their crime and razed their city to the ground. 14 God is not afraid of the result of what He had decreed. 15
