So, when the envoys came to the folk of Lot, 61 he said: "Surely you are an unknown folk." 62 They said, "But we have come to you with that about which they were disputing, 63 "Yet we bring to you the truth, and we are truthful. 64 "So leave with your family late in the night, yourself remaining in the rear, and let none turn back to look, and go where you will be commanded." 65 And We made known to him this decree that the wrongdoers were to be utterly cut off in the morning. 66 And the people of the city came [unto Lot,] rejoicing at the glad tiding. 67 Lut said: "These are my guests: disgrace me not: 68 And keep your duty to Allah, and shame me not! 69 They said: "Did we not forbid thee (to speak) for all and sundry?" 70 He said, 'These are my daughters, if you would be doing.' 71 By your life - they are indeed straying in their intoxication. 72 So As-Saihah (torment - awful cry, etc.) overtook them at the time of sunrise; 73 And We made the highest part [of the city] its lowest and rained upon them stones of hard clay. 74 There are certainly signs in that for those who can learn a lesson -- 75 And indeed that township is upon a road still in use. 76 Most surely there is a sign in this for the believers. 77 The dwellers of the Thicket were harmdoers. 78 So We chastised them. The desolate locations of both communities lie on a well-known highway. 79
