۞ [The angels will be ordered], "Gather those who committed wrong, their kinds, and what they used to worship 22 "Instead of Allah, and lead them on to the way of flaming Fire (Hell); 23 And halt them so that they may be questioned. 24 “What is the matter with you, that you do not help one another?” 25 Nay! on that day they shall be submissive. 26 And some of them inclined towards others, mutually questioning. 27 saying: 'You used to come to us from the right hand' 28 They will say: “Nay, you yourselves were not the ones who would believe. 29 Moreover, we had no power at all over you: nay, you were people filled with overweening arrogance! 30 But now our Lord's word has come true against us: truly, we are bound to taste [the punishment]. 31 So we led you astray, for we ourselves were erring. 32 Then lo! this day they (both) are sharers in the doom. 33 Thus do We treat the culprits. 34 For when it was said unto them, There is no Allah save Allah, they were scornful 35 And said: Shall we forsake our gods for a mad poet? 36 In fact he has brought the Truth, and testified for the Noble Messengers! 37 (They will be told): “You shall taste the grievous chastisement. 38 But it will be no more than the retribution of (the Evil) that ye have wrought;- 39 But the sincere servants of God 40 Those! theirs shall be a provision known: 41 Fruits; and they will be honored 42 in the Gardens of Delight, 43 On thrones facing one another. 44 With cups from a flowing stream being passed around, 45 White, delicious to those who drink. 46 but not harmful or intoxicating. 47 Theirs shall be wide-eyed maidens with bashful, restrained glances, 48 Like sheltered eggs in a nest. 49 They will turn to one another with questions: 50 A speaker among them will say, "Indeed, I had a companion [on earth] 51 Who said: What! are you indeed of those who accept (the truth)? 52 "(That) when we die and become dust and bones, shall we indeed (be raised up) to receive reward or punishment (according to our deeds)?" 53 He said: 'Will you look down?' 54 He looked down and saw (his friend) in the midst of Hell. 55 He will say, "By Allah, you almost ruined me. 56 But for Allah's favour, I should be one of those who have been mustered here. 57 He will ask his companion, "Did you not say that there would only be one death 58 except our first death, and shall we not be punished' 59 This will indeed be great happiness. 60 For the like of this then let the workers work. 61 Is this better as an entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 We have indeed made that a punishment for the unjust. 63 Surely it is a tree that-grows in the bottom of the hell; 64 and its fruits are like the heads of devils. 65 and they eat of it, and of it fill their bellies, 66 And afterward, lo! thereupon they have a drink of boiling water 67 then surely they shall return to Hell. 68 They found their fathers erring, 69 and they are running in their footsteps. 70 And verily most of the men of old went astray before them, 71 And indeed We had sent Heralds of warnings among them. 72 Then see how was the end of those warned, 73 Only Our sincere servants were saved. 74
