The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The Hour is drawing near, and the moon is split (in two). 1 And if they see a miracle they turn aside and say: Transient magic. 2 And they denied and followed their inclinations. But for every matter is a [time of] settlement. 3 And assuredly there hath come unto them tidings wherein is a deterrent. 4 The pinnacle of wisdom – so how will the Heralds of warning provide any benefit? 5 So turn away from them. When on the Day the crier calls to the painful business, 6 they will come out of their graves, their eyes cast down, hastening towards their Summoner as locusts rushing about. 7 Hastening toward the summoner. The infidels will say: this is a day diffrcult. 8 ۞ The folk of Noah denied before them, yea, they denied Our slave and said: A madman; and he was repulsed. 9 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “I am overpowered, therefore avenge me.” 10 So We opened the gates of the sky with water pouring down in torrents, 11 And We made water to flow forth in the land in springs, so the water gathered together according to a measure already ordained. 12 But We bore him on a (vessel made) of planks and oakum, 13 That ran (upon the waters) in Our sight, as a reward for him who was rejected. 14 And assuredly We left it for a sign. Is there then anyone who would be admonished? 15 So how awesome were My chastisement and My warnings! 16 And assuredly We have made the Qur'an easy for admonition; is there then any one who would be admonished? 17 TO THE TRUTH gave the lie [the tribe of] Ad: and how severe was the suffering which I inflicted when My warnings were disregarded! 18 We loosed against them a wind clamorous in a day of ill fortune continuous, 19 Smashing down men as if they were uprooted trunks of date palms. 20 How then were My punishment and My warnings! 21 And certainly We have made the Quran easy for remembrance, but is there anyone who will mind? 22
