Nay; I swear by the moon, 32 And by the night when it withdraws, 33 And by the Dawn as it shineth forth,- 34 This is but one of the mighty (portents), 35 As a warning unto men, 36 to everyone of you, whether he chooses to come forward or to hang back! 37 Every soul is held in pledge against its own deeds, 38 except those of the right hand 39 In gardens, they shall ask each other 40 Concerning the culprits: 41 “What drove you to Hell?” 42 They will say, "We were not of those who prayed, 43 "Nor used to feed the needy." 44 We indulged and persisted in useless disputes, 45 and rejected the Day of Judgment 46 until there came to us the certainty. 47 Then will no intercession of (any) intercessors profit them. 48 What aileth them, therefore, that they are from the admonition turning away? 49 As they were frightened asses 50 That had fled from a lion? 51 Rather each one of them desires that he should be given open Books. 52 No! They do not fear the Hereafter -- 53 Nay, verily, this (Quran) is an admonition, 54 So whosoever willeth may heed it. 55 But they [who do not believe in the life to come] will not take it to heart unless God so wills: [for] He is the Fount of all God-consciousness, and the Fount of all forgiveness. 56
