Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Have you heard about the Overwhelming Event? 1 [Some] faces, that Day, will be humbled, 2 be toiling and worn-out; 3 They will suffer the heat of the blazing fire 4 Given water from the boiling spring to drink. 5 they shall have no food but thorns, 6 Which neither give strength nor satisfy the hunger. 7 Many faces will be joyous on that day, 8 well-pleased with [the fruit of] their striving, 9 In the high empyrean, 10 hearing there no babble; 11 Within it is a flowing spring. 12 and raised couches, 13 and goblets placed ready, 14 cushions ranged, 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And the heavens, how it was raised high; 18 and on the mountains, how they are firmly set up, 19 And the earth – how it has been spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 you are not their keeper. 22 But whoever turns back and disbelieves, 23 will be punished by God with the greatest punishment. 24 To Us is surely their returning; 25 and then it is for Us to call them to account. 26
