The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Praise be to God who has sent down to His servant -- the Book, which is free from any ambiguity 1 unswerving. To warn of great violence from Him, and to give good tidings to the believers who do good deeds that theirs shall be a goodly wage 2 and they will live for ever therein. 3 Further, that He may warn those (also) who say, "Allah hath begotten a son": 4 No knowledge have they of such a thing, nor had their fathers. Mighty is the word that comes out of their mouths [i.e. He begot (took) sons and daughters]. They utter nothing but a lie. 5 But wouldst thou, perhaps, torment thyself to death with grief over them if they are not willing to believe in this message? 6 We have adorned the earth with attractive things, so that We may test mankind as to which one is best in conduct, 7 And indeed We shall one day make all that is on it a barren plain. 8 Or, do you think that the Fellows of the Cave and the Inscription were of Our wonderful signs? 9 When the young men took refuge in the Cave – then said, “Our Lord! Give us mercy from Yourself, and arrange guidance for us in our affair.” 10 Then We smote their ears many years in the Cave. 11 Then We roused them to find out which of the party had the correct account of the duration of their sleep in the cave. 12
