Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
KAF HA YA 'AIN SAD. 1 Mention of the mercy of thy Lord to His bondman Zakariyya. 2 When he quietly called his Lord 3 Saying: "My Lord! Indeed my bones have grown feeble, and grey hair has spread on my head, And I have never been unblest in my invocation to You, O my Lord! 4 And now I fear my kinsfolk after I am gone; and my wife is barren. So give me, from Thee, a kinsman 5 who shall be my inheritor and the inheritor of the House of Jacob; and make him, my Lord, well-pleasing.' 6 (It was said unto him): O Zachariah! Lo! We bring thee tidings of a son whose name is John; We have given the same name to none before (him). 7 'How shall I have a son, Lord' he asked, 'when my wife is barren, and I am advanced in years' 8 (The angel) said, "This is true, but your Lord says, 'For Me it is easy; I created you when you did not exist". 9 He said, "My Lord, grant me a sign!" He said, "Your sign will be that you will not speak to anyone for three successive days and nights, although sound in body." 10 Then he came forth to his people from the sanctuary, and he beckoned unto them. hallow your Lord morning and evening. 11 (To his son came the command): "O Yahya! take hold of the Book with might": and We gave him Wisdom even as a youth, 12 And compassion from Our presence, and purity; and he was devout, 13 And kind to his parents, neither arrogant nor disobedient. 14 And peace on him on the day he was born, and on the day he dies, and on the day he is raised to life 15
