The people of Lut gave the lie to the apostles. 160 When their brother Lut said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 161 I am a trustworthy Messenger. 162 Have fear of God and obey me. 163 I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 164 Go ye in, of all creatures, unto the males? 165 and leave your wives whom your Lord has created for you? You are a people who transgress all bounds." 166 They said: "If thou desist not, O Lut! thou wilt assuredly be cast out!" 167 He said, "I am one of those who abhors your ways. 168 My Lord, save me and my family from their evil doings." 169 So We saved him and his whole family 170 Except an old woman who lingered behind. 171 Then We utterly destroyed the others. 172 and We poured a rain [of destruction] down upon them -- and how evil was the rain which fell on those who were forewarned. 173 In this there is an evidence of the Truth, but many of them did not have any faith. 174 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 175
