A throng of the ancients 39 and a large group of those of later times. 40 As for the Companions of the Left 41 (They will be) in the midst of a Fierce Blast of Fire and in Boiling Water, 42 and under the shadow of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor refreshing. 44 For that they were wont to be indulged, before that, in wealth (and luxury), 45 And they have been persisting in the heinous offence. 46 ever saying, 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up? 47 And also our forefathers? 48 Say: 'The ancients, and the later folk 49 Shall most surely be gathered together for the appointed hour of a known day. 50 Then you, the erring ones and those that gave the lie to the Truth, 51 Will be eating from trees of zaqqum 52 You shall fill your bellies with it, 53 Then drink over it of boiling water; 54 Drinking even as the camel drinketh. 55 Thus shall they be entertained on the Day of Recompense. 56 It is We Who created you, so why do you not accept the truth? 57 Did you ever consider the sperm that you emit? 58 did you create it or did We? 59 We have decreed among you Death; We shall not be outstripped; 60 To transfigure you and create you in (forms) that you know not. 61 You have surely known of the first creation. Why then, will you not remember! 62 Just ponder over what you sow: 63 Do you yourselves sow it, or are We the Sowers? 64 If We will, We would make it broken stubble and you would remain wondering, 65 "Verily, we are ruined! 66 "Nay, but we are deprived!" 67 Tell Me! The water that you drink. 68 Is it you who sent it down from the clouds or is it We who have sent it down? 69 Did We will, We would make it bitter; so why are you not thankful? 70 Did you consider the fire which you kindle? 71 Produce ye the tree thereof, or are We the Producer? 72 We have made it a reminder, and a blessing to the traveler. 73 Extol, then, the limitless glory of thy Sustainer's mighty name! 74
