The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 arise, and warn! 2 And your Lord glorify 3 thy robes purify 4 and flee from the statues! 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then he looked, 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
