The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ Of what ask they? 1 About the great news - 2 About which they cannot agree. 3 By no means! anon they shall know. 4 Surely, they will soon find out the truth! 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And have appointed your sleep for repose, 9 And have made the night as a covering (through its darkness), 10 And We made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We made above you seven strong ones, 12 And We have set therein lamps glowing. 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water, 14 Thereby to produce grain and plant, 15 and thick gardens grow? 16 The Day of Judgment will certainly be the final appointment. 17 The day the trumpet blast is sounded you will come in hordes; 18 The heavens will be opened wide and turn into so many doors, 19 and the mountains are set in motion, and become a vapour. 20 Verily the Hell is an ambuscade: 21 The destination of the rebellious. 22 They will abide therein for ages. 23 tasting therein neither coolness nor any drink 24 Save a boiling fluid and a fluid, dark, murky, intensely cold, 25 a meet requital [for their sins]! 26 For indeed they did not look forward to any reckoning, 27 And they belied Our revelations with strong belying. 28 And everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 'Taste! We shall not increase you except in punishment' 30
