Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 and ten nights (of pilgrimage or the last ten days of Ramadan), 2 By the even and odd (contrasted); 3 And by oath of the night when it recedes 4 Is there in that an oath for the mindful? 5 Dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) A'ad, 6 Who were very tall like lofty pillars, 7 the like of which was never created in the land, 8 And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?- 9 And Pharaoh, of the pegs (impaling his victims)? 10 All of them committed excesses in their lands, 11 and caused much corruption in them: 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me. 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 and do not urge one another to feed the poor, 18 Why do you take away the inheritance of others indiscriminately 19 And you harbour intense love for wealth. 20 No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed - 21 And when the command of your Lord comes – and the angels row by row, 22 And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him? 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 For, that Day, His Chastisement will be such as none (else) can inflict, 25 and none can bind with bonds like His! 26 O you tranquil soul, 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 "Yea, enter thou My Heaven! 30
