The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the declining star, 1 Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. 2 Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It [the Quran] is nothing but revelation sent down to him. 4 taught by One who is Stern in power. 5 One vigorous; and he grew clear to view 6 And reached the highest pinnacle. 7 Then he drew near and hung above suspended, 8 until he was two bows' length away, or nearer. 9 He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. 10 His heart did not lie of what he saw. 11 what, will you dispute with him what he sees? 12 And certainly he saw him in another descent, 13 Nigh unto the lote-tree at the boundary. 14 Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, 15 When the lote-tree was being enveloped, by whatever around it. 16 (Muhammad's) eyes did not deceive him, nor did they lead him to falsehood. 17 Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you then considered Al-Lat, and Al-'Uzza (two idols of the pagan Arabs). 19 as well as [in] Manat, the third and last [of this triad]? 20 Why - for yourselves [you would choose only] male offspring, whereas to Him [you assign] female: 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 They are nothing but some names that you have coined, you and your forefathers – Allah has not sent any proof for them; they follow only guesses and their own desires; whereas the guidance from their Lord has come to them. 23 Nay, shall man have (just) anything he hankers after? 24 All that is in the life to come and all that is in this life belongs only to God. 25
