The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)

WOE TO THOSE who give short measure, 1 Who, when they take the measure (of their dues) from men take it fully, 2 Whereas when they give others after measuring or weighing, they give them less! 3 Do they not realise that they will be raised to life 4 Unto an Awful Day, 5 a Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the Universe? 6 NAY, VERILY, the record of the wicked is indeed [set down] in a mode inescapable! 7 And what will make thee know whatsoever the record in Sijjin is? 8 A written record. 9 Woe, then, to those that give the lie, 10 Who give the lie to the day of judgment. 11 And none can deny it but the Transgressor beyond bounds the Sinner! 12 When you recite Our verses to him, he says, "Stories of earlier men!" 13 No! Rather, the stain has covered their hearts of that which they were earning. 14 Nay! most surely they shall on that day be debarred from their Lord. 15 Then they will indeed burn in Hell. 16 Then it shall be said to them, 'This is that you cried lies to.' 17 But, the Book of the righteous is in the 'Illiyoon. 18 and what will make you understand what the 'Illiyyin is? -- 19 (There is) a Register (fully) inscribed, 20 To which bear witness those nearest (to Allah, i.e. the angels). 21 Most surely the righteous shall be in bliss, 22 On thrones, looking (at all things). 23 You can trace on their faces the joy of their bliss. 24 They will be given to drink pure sealed wine. 25 The last thereof (that wine) will be the smell of musk, and for this let (all) those strive who want to strive (i.e. hasten earnestly to the obedience of Allah). 26 and whose mixture is Tasnim, 27 a fountain at which the chosen ones shall drink. 28 The wicked used to laugh at the believers -- 29 when them passed them by winking at one another, 30 and when they returned to their people they returned blithely, 31 and when they saw them, they said [scornfully], "These men have surely gone astray," 32 Yet they were not sent as watchers over them. 33 On the Day of Judgment, the believers will laugh at the disbelievers 34 as they sit on couches, gazing around. 35 Did not the disbelievers get repaid for what they used to do? 36
