(The tribe of) A’ad denied the Noble Messengers. 123 Behold, their brother Hud said to them: "Will ye not fear (Allah)? 124 "Verily! I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 125 fear God, then, and obey me. 126 For this I ask of you no wage, for my wage falls only on the Lord of the Worlds. 127 “What! You build a structure on every height, to laugh at the passers-by?” 128 and raise strong mansions as if you were to live forever? 129 "And when you seize, seize you as tyrants? 130 Rather keep your duty to Allah, and obey me. 131 Fear Him who has given you all the things you know. 132 He has bestowed on you cattle, and sons, 133 "And gardens and springs. 134 Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a dreadful Day' 135 They said, "Whether you preach to us or not, 136 This [religion of ours] is none other than that to which our forebears clung, 137 And we are not going to be punished. 138 And they denied him, so We destroyed them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 139 And verily thy Lord? He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
