The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 arise and give warning! 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 And all defilement shun! 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 Then he looked round; 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 scorching the flesh; 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 We have appointed none but angels as the keepers of the Fire, and We have not made their number but as a trial for the unbelievers so that those who have been endowed with the Book will be convinced and the believers' faith will increase, and neither those who have been endowed with the Book nor the believers will fall into any doubt. As for those in whose hearts there is a sickness as well as the unbelievers, they will say: “What did Allah aim at by this strange parable?” Thus does Allah let whomsoever He pleases to go astray, and directs whomsoever He pleases to the Right Way. And none knows the hosts of your Lord but He. (And Hell has only been mentioned here) that people may take heed. 31
