The nobles of Pharaoh said: "He surely is a clever magician. 109 and said, "He wants to expel you from your land." They asked (others), " what is your opinion in the matter? 110 They said: "Keep him and his brother in suspense (for a while); and send to the cities men to collect- 111 To bring each knowing wizard unto thee. 112 And the enchanters came to Firon (and) said: We must surely have a reward if we are the prevailing ones. 113 He answered: Yes, and surely ye shall be of those brought near (to me). 114 They said: O Moses! Either throw (first) or let us be the first throwers? 115 He said: cast ye. Then when they cast down, they enchanted the eyes of the people, and terrified them and brought mighty magic to bear. 116 And We inspired Moses (saying): Throw thy staff! And lo! it swallowed up their lying show. 117 ۞ Thus was the truth established, and their doings proved in vain. 118 So they were defeated there and then, and were returned disgraced. 119 And the magicians flung themselves prostrate. 120 Saying: "We believe in the Lord of the Worlds,- 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 Firon said: Do you believe in Him before I have given you permission? Surely this is a plot which you have secretly devised in this city, that you may turn out of it its people, but you shall know: 123 I will surely cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides; then I will surely crucify you all." 124 They said: verily unto our Lord we are turning. 125 You only take revenge on us because we believed in the Lord when we saw His miracles. Lord, grant us patience and let us die Muslims (submitted to God)." 126
