The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 like hidden pearls, 23 The reward for what they did. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 The Companions of the Right 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 and continuous shade, 30 And water everflowing. 31 and fruits abounding 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 And exalted thrones. 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 And made them virgins, 36 Loving companions matched in age, 37 with those who have attained to righteousness: 38
