He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 So you are after him! 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 In honored books, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 and olives and palms, 29 And dense gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 and his mother and his father; 35 his wife and his sons: 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 and covered by darkness. 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
