The chiefs of Firon's people said: most surely this is an enchanter possessed of knowledge: 109 who wants to drive you out of your land! " [Said Pharaoh:] "What, then, do you advise?" 110 They said: "Put him and his brother off (awhile) and send out heralds to the cities 111 who shall bring before thee every sorcerer of great knowledge." 112 And the magicians came to Pharaoh and asked, "Shall we have a reward, if we should prevail?" 113 "Yes," said he, "you will be among the honoured." 114 They said: 'Moses, will you throw first or shall we be the throwers' 115 'Throw' he replied. And when they threw, they bewitched the people's eyes and terrified them, and produced great sorcery. 116 And We revealed to Moses: 'Cast thy staff!' And lo, it forthwith swallowed up their lying invention. 117 ۞ Thus the truth prevailed and what they had produced came to nothing: 118 And Pharaoh and his people were overcome right there and became debased. 119 And the magicians fell down in prostration [to Allah]. 120 saying: 'We believe in the Lord of the universe, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron. 122 Fir'awn said: believed ye in him ere I have given you leave? Verily this is a plot ye have plotted in the city that ye may drive forth the people thereof. So presently ye shall know. 123 I shall assuredly cut off alternately your hands and feet, then I shall crucify you all together.' 124 They answered: "Verily, unto our Sustainer do we turn 125 Thou takest vengeance on us only forasmuch as we believed the tokens of our Lord when they came unto us. Our Lord! Vouchsafe unto us steadfastness and make us die as men who have surrendered (unto Thee). 126
